WEST COAST RAM FAIR.
ALTERNATE ARRANGEMENTS ADHERED TO. • \\ th< October meeting of the Manawatu' A. and P. Association. Mr J. <> Feilding. introduced a motion whlCff. had for its object the permanent remova/x <>> the West Coast Ham Fair to Feilding- >» place of Jhe present arrangement of alternate fairs at Palmerston and Keilding. It was ultimately decith<d to refer the question for consideration by the Ham Fair Committee of, the Manawatu' Association.. This commit tee met this morning, when Mr Knight'* motion was considered, and after discussion, Major Dunk moved that the terms of arrangement, with Feilding be adhered to. Mr McKnight seconded the motion, which wan carried. It 'was recoinmeiided that, a combined meeting' of the Palmcrston North and Feilding A. and P. Ham Fair Committees with tho Live' Stock Auctioneers' Asociation be called for the purpose of reconsidering dates, etc. When the report was read at the A. and P Associations general meeting to-day, Mr Knight availed himself of the opportunity of moving his original motion, and said this'roast should work up a strong fair and until that was done it would not bo tiio success it. should be. The main point was that the fair should be held at one centre permanently, and ho thought that tint centre was Feilding. Mr Knight produced a number of letters from breeders in that district supporting tie holding of the fair permanently in I'eliding. , Mr Conway seconded the motion. Mr J M. Johnston said he had made | P„*qufrica at the recent show, and found, that breeders and exhibitors preferred having the fair at one.centre, whether it, was Palmer,ton or Fe.ldmg it did not m Mr Ol EHis considered that as the fair was started in Palmcrston it should not be given to Feilding now. and he was confident thai tin; /air when held i„ Feilding interfered with tho entries received for the Mana.Spring Show. He .thought there should ( „: one big ram fair on this coast, and it should bo centralised, and the question was, I where should i. bo held? (Members: Here, Palmerston). "The speaker said JU>. Feilding was the centre where the. brooders were, and tho breeders would insist on it being held there. Mr F. Arbon said the previous speaker! had referred to the breeders. Jhe buyers should be considered also. . Mr A. J. Lcvett bupport-ed tho commitsaid he did not think that the A. and P. Association was created tor one section of the community only, but to serve the greatest interest, He hoped that nothing would be allowed to shear the loca Association of any of its prestige or. that j anything would be allowed to creep in in j the wav of :lecentrahsation. Ho therefore opposed the removal of the fair to Fending permanently. ■ In repl-, Mr Knight said if nothing more had ,beeii achieved from his action m this matter, it had created a considerable amount of interest in the fair, and that he hoped tho result would Ik- that a strong fair would eventually be worked up.
