THE assistance and co-operation ol owners is earnestly requested in reducing the fly pest. Every occupier of stables must pay particular attention to flushing down the drainage and general cleanliness ol stables. Horses should have clean bedding at least once a week, which should he treed from manure daily. This manure, which is certain to contain flies’ eggs, should he buried, or if stacked then treated with arsenical sheep dip I to 150 oi water and sprayed lightly with paraffin. Jf all manure is removed oneo a week and either sprayed, treated or dug in, an immense step will ho taken in fly prevention. It is the stable fly, Stomoxys caleitraiiH, which has been proved to convoy the virus of the infantile paralysis, and it differs from the house fly only in having a penetrating sucker. Manure must not lie stacked anywhere in the Borough for more than a week unless completely covered with a ■layer of earth or chemically treated.
