NURSES' MEMORIAL FUND.
TO THK EDITOB. Sir,—On behalf of the nurses who have boon doing "their bit'/ at the front, I make, as lion, organiser «l .the local fund, nn earnest appeal to »\n, and especially to other women, to assist me to augment the Memorial Fuml. An entertainment is to bo Held at the Opera House to-morrow evening for thiv purpose. A few gentlemen have beeri jrood enough to render me all theirassistance in this matter, as also has Major Gabitos, the CO. of Awapuni Canip. Other ladies and gentlemen are assisting at the performance, and now, through your journal, I appeal to all—to the great, generous, sympathetic public, to give this fund their unqualified support. Nurses from all over the great British Empire have performed their trying duties nobly; so noble and heroic have thev been that their deeds, during this terrible war. have made the Empire thrill through and through as it read of their self-sacrifice and heroic efforts. Many will be returning to us, in the future; shattered in health and nerves and will require assistance. This fund is for this purpose. They Avill come back to us—those that aro spared, because, mi fortunately, quite a number have already lost their lives in this great struggle—"their duty nobly done," and I do trust and pray that this district, which has so generously responded to all claims of a similar character, will, to-morrow evening,' show by substantial support its sympathy and agreement with an earnest appeal for a noble cause.—l am, etc., ELSIE F. NATHAN. Palmerston North, Nov. 3, 1917.
