Sir Douglas Haig reports: Hostile artillery has shown considerable activity eastward and northward of \ pres. Ours carried out concentrated bombardments on positions in the battle area. Our captures in Franco, in October, were 9125, including 242 officers, 15 guns, 431 machine, guns, and 42 trench mortars. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We dispersed a concentration of enemy troops in the neighbourhood of Passehendaele. BRITISH POSITIONS IMPROVED. SUCCESSFUL RAIDS. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association Received November 3, 11.Id a.m. LONDON, Nov. 2. Sir Douglas llaig reports: We. slightly improved our position southward and westward of Passehendaele, and south-eastward of Poelcapellc. The Lincolnshire* and Lancashire* successfully raided eastward of Vormcllos and eastward of Shrewsbury forest. There was great activity among hostile artillery eastward of Ypres.
ALLIED COMMUNIQUES. VIOLENT ARTILLERY DUELS. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Reuter's Telegram.) Received November 3, 10.50 a.nt. LONDON, Nov. 2. A Belgian communique says: There has been a violent artillery struggle, especially before Dixmude. Wo secured several direct hits on enemy batteries and works. A French communique says: A somewhat violent artillery duel took place north of the Aisne, in the region of Maisons do Champagne, and on the right bank of the Meuse, to the north of Bczonvaux.
