WAIRARAPA SHOW.
OPENED WEDNESDAY,
The fortieth animal show of the Wiura- ! rapa Pastoral and Agricultural. Society opened on Wednesday at Carterton. The display in many respects was up to' the •iandard of previous years, though classes have naturally suffered through tho abnormal times. The display of dairj cuttle, always a meritorious feature of the Wairarapa Sli'ow. is this year well up to the fore, and . if anything, enhances the reputation of the show, as a ground for the display of this I class of animal. Ayrshires were a parlic'tilarly line class, but Hereford? were not ; brought forward in anything like large numbers. Friesians and Jerseys made a good display. Sheep showed an appreciable decline in last \ear's figures. Then 333 entries were made, a.- against 221 on this occasion. The shortage of." labour through the war greatly brought about this reduction, as breeders have not the time now to )'.re|wre exhibits for show purposes. The list ol judges included Messrs C. A. .1 Levett. Kiwitea (Hereford.*): A. J. Galhclian, Tiakilahuna (Friesians); 0. K. C. i Dernier. Feilding (Jersevs); )'.. Cray, Feilding dug-); 11. Tollcy; Feilding (mam), t rATTLK AWARDS. In tin Kiicsian section the local brooder, Mr W. 1. Lovelock, look two firsts and lour seconds, as well as several minor awards'. Mr Lovelock showed the champion bull also. Messrs .]. Kyie (Aokauiero) and I), Buchauan (Tiakilahuna) exhibited successfully with their Ayrshives. Mr Kyle's awards were two lir.ils and one third, and championship and reserve championship For bulls. Four firsts, the championship for cow pud four seconds fell to Mr Buchanan's lot. The Porirn.l .Menial Hospital also took several awards in this section. Messrs W. 11. Booth and E. Eagle (Carterton) divided the awards for Jerseys. In the Shorthorn pens Sir Walter Buchanan and Messrs Dal/.icll Bros.. A. McLean, and \V. H. Booth were the exhibitors, j Ucrefords, as*slated, were a small class, and K. Jefferson took all awards. Amongst, the sheep Mr Jas. Knight (Feilding) b>jk several prizes for Ronmey Marsh', "also reserve championship, others, successful hi tin's section being Messrs \V. Perry and G. E. Allen. Well-known Lincoln.'breeders in Messrs W. 11. Gaisford, B. Rayucr. W. Perry. A. E. Anderson. \\ . 11. Booth. J. W. Lompton, and McGregor's Estate divided the awards for this class. Messrs J. pion ewe. . Breeders were not largely represented in pig classes - . Exhibitors in Porirua Mental Hospital and Mrs J. Wall took practically all the prizes. . Sixteen hunters took part in the usual open competition,' in which the consistent; Mickey Free, owned by Mr 11. Hassall, of iiawko's Bay, was a good winner. Mr J. J.
