Referring to the fact that there would bo no meeting of the State Parliament on. Tuesday, September 25, the Sydney Daily Telegraph of that date said that owijvg to the previous Tuesday's meeting havi'iig- been abandoned an impression gained ground that the Governmep/o desired to avoid the discussion of ~l'nvato members' business— always set .- apart for Tuesday nights—as much as possible. There is, however, no foundation for this suggestion. Last week th» Tuesday sitting was abandoned because during the previous week the Assembly had sat for an abnormally lonjr period discussing the Estimates. This Week the Legislative Assembly will not meet until 7 oV'lock to-morrow night. The reason for this is probably unique in parliamentary history. To-morrow is the day of the Fast of the Atonement in the Jewish Church. The period of this fast will not conclude until sunset to-morrow night. Doth the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (Mr J. ,T. Cohen) and tlio Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees (Mr I). Levy) are members of the Jewish Church : and it is out of respect to these two officers of the House that the adjournment was made until 7 o'clock to-morrow evening. To nave met either to-day or tomorrow at the,usual.hour would have necessitated an election of a temporary .Speaker and Chairman of Committees.
