EX-CONSTABLE MALONEY.

A WEST COAST CASE. (Fbom Ona Pabliamentaot Repohteb.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. Mr Colvitt (Buller) is asking the Minister in Charge of Police Department: (1) Whether the following particulars relating to the retirement of ex-Con-stable Moloney are in accordance with facts: Constable Maloncy was dismissed the Police Force on the 28th July, 1915. He petitioned Parliament in that year, and as a result of the finding of the Committor a Royal Commission was; set up, which exonerated him, as per Crown Law Oilieer's letter of the sth September, 1910, wliich states, inter alia,."Maloncy was hot guilty of tho charge so alleged against him"? (2) Did the Government offer Maloncy £IOO as compensation its Hie result of "the finding of the Public Petit ions At lo 'L Committee? (3) Did Moloney after the lapse of twenty-five months accept a further offer of £350 practically under compulsion, "and was ho forced to'sign tht' following receipt in order to obtain this ariiount: ''l, Peter Maloney, of Greymouth, ex-police constable, _ do hereby acknowledge to. have received the sum of £350 in full settlement_ of all claims against His Majesty the King in respect of my dismissal from the Police Force of New Zealand, and for the consideration aforesaid I hereby undertake that I will not jxHition Parliament or fake any other steps _ or proceedings claiming Compensation, damages, or otherwise in respect of my naid dismissal from the Police Force of Now- Zealand"? (4) Is Maloney in the position of a convicted man; and, if not, has he the right of reappointment in the Police Force with the status of superannuation and advancement which he occupied at the time of his dismissal? (5) Does the Minister approve of tho method adopted in this ease, where tho value of a man's character is virtually assessed at £350; and, if so, is this so-called British justice?
