MAKERUA BURNING FATALITY.

An inquest was held at Shannon this morning before Mr Fraser, J.P.. acting coroner, to enquire into the death ot an eleven-months-old child, mimed Arthur Harold Russell, who was burned to drain in a house near Tokomaru on l< riday last. Detective-Sergeant Quirke conducted the enquirv. Evidence was given by Mrs Gu'stafson, Mrs Frank Bailey Constable ("onion and Defective Quirke. which tended to show that a four-year-old child an inmate of the house, set. fire to the bedding in the mother's bedroom, where the deceased child was left in a cot. The Coroner returned a verdict that Arthur Harold Russell came to his death by burning on October 5 1917, at Makerua, the house having been set on fire bv a child playing with matches.
