THE OVERSEAS TOBACCO FUND.
TO THE F.DTTOB. Sir, — It is a big surprise to many people that, for the sake of a. few shillings gained by gate money, the A. and B. Committee have refused permission to the above most deserving fund for canvass on the ground. Apart from the fact of there being a. standing- rule of not permitting- canvassing at the Show, a very childish reason is put forward —“That some people would not attend if this wore allowed.” Now, sir, i can only say that from such an intellectual body of men as the A. and P. Committee are, or should be, they might have waived both these objections aside; in so doing “do their hit” towards a most deserving, and at tiie same time what is probably the most appreciated “luxury” in the life of a man in the Benches. I have received tobacco and cigarettes in the firing line on Gallipoli, and they were of the best quality. Hoping that Mr Hankins will a>k for a reconsideration of the. decision, and wishing the “Overseas” every success.—l am, etc , “A SMOKER RET I TEN ED." October 18, 1916,
