GLEN OROUA.
(From odr own Correspondent.) The good weather here continuing, large loads of milk now arrive at (ho factory and the. cheese making is in. full swing. Our spring has been especially kindly so far. for Ihe willows, almost an evergreen here, and fho fruit trees are showing decided signs of an early growth Another successful social and dance was hold last End ay night, and tho evening being very line people came from long distances. Those socials have boon very much appreciated during the winter and have served two purposes—to augment our Soldiers’ Club funds and to bring together the people of the district. Everyone in this district, will be sorry to hoar that the lady assistant at the school is shortly leaving to lake up her duties at, Waitara, Taranaki. The very successful send-off to Privates Lawler and MacMillan, which L mentioned briefly in my last notes, deserved fuller treatment, so 1 take this opportunity* of writing more fully on the subject. People came from all parts of the district, and Iho hall was crowded to overflowing. This fact alone speaks volumes of what the residents of the district I bought of the two lads. Mr Lancaster, in making the presentation, expressed his appreciation of the honour ho felt was conferred upon him in being asked to do so, and said that the way the residents had turned out and the presents been given showed how highly the services of the. two men had been held. lie Imped they would be long spared to make use of the gifts. Tin; Soldiers’ Social Club presented each man with £3. end the suppliers of the factory presented each with a. hand-some gold-mounted albert watch chain, a. gold medal suitably inset ibid, and a solid silver pencil-holder. In going away to the front, our friends carrv the good wishes of all tho Glen Oroua people for a safe return, and can rest assured that their welcome back will be perhaps not surpassed, but indeed as splendid as their send-off'. “J hey Are Jolly Good Fellows” was tiling after each presentation. The I’ev. Mr Fortune gave a. stirring address on pa riotism. viiich was highly appreciated. “God .Save the King” was then snug and tho ceremony closed with a concert and dance.
