BOWLING.

The champion of champion singles competition iii Canterbury for the Muddison trophy was decided at Christchurch on Saturday week, and was won by W. J. Shearman, of the Edgewaro Road Club, Christchurch, who won his iinal game against R. T. Thompson, of the St. Albans Club, by the large margin of 16 points. The competition is open to morn- . bers of Canterbury Clubs, and the representatives selected provided some very exciting play. Shearman played splendidly throughout the competition. In the final game ho boat Thompson again and again; at seven beads the scores were 8 to 4; at 14 heads, 14 to 8; 21 heads, 21 to 11 —the. last two heads not being played. At the conclusion, Mr John Brown, president of the Centro, presented the Muddison trophy to the winner, Mr W. Shearman, who is the eighth winner of the contest. Mr Shearman replied briefly, and cheers wore given for.the winner and runner-up. Mr Shearman was a, member of the Now Zealand team that | toured Now South Wales and Queensland in 1914, and proved one of the .most useful players in the combination, ■ his gonial disposition on the different greens visited winning him many friends. The champion of champion rinks competition for Canterbury was decided at Sydenham green on Saturday week, when United Club won the final game and secured the coveted honour.- The United players were, Roberts, R. T. Tosswill, Dr. Marks, W. Fraser (skip), defeating a team from the. Christchurch Club—-J. 11. Seugar, 11. Langford, W. S. Atkinson and 11. Torrance (skip) —by 18 to 12. The latter rink also" played in the final game for the Dominion Association’s banner at Christchurch in January last when they were defeated by a team from the Newtown Club, Wellington. The Newtown Club (Wellington) has had a most successful season. Hero is a list of its successes:—George Noble skipped a Newtown rink to vho final stage of tho Wellington Centro Tournament a|, tho Now Year, when Boynon and his Pctone rink won -the event, Noble and Co. being run-ners-up. Immediately afterwards another Newtown rink (skipped by Laughton) pulled oil (bo Dominion Rink Championship’at Christchurch. And now when the 16 clubs, of Wellington district contest the Champion, of Champions honour for singles, pairs and rinks, Newtown once more is to j the fore and carried off all three honours, i John Brackenridgc is Champion of Cham-1 pious for Singles; G. Price, Spiers, J. Sexton, and W. Wylie arc the Champion of Champions rink. And now the record is topped oft by J. Sexton and W. Wylie winning the Champion of Champions Pairs.
