BY 200 GERMAN SUBMARINES. SINK EVERYTHING IN BRITISH WATERS. Received March 27, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, March 26. The. Daily News’ Rotterdam correspondent says Germany has at least 200 submarines. She will shortly inform all neutrals that a complete submarine blockade of Britain exists, and will warn them that any vessel in British waters will bo sunk. AMERICAN STOCKS DECLINE SHARPLY. HOLLAND’S SHIPPING TIED UP. Received March 27, 11.50 a.m. NEW YORK, March 26. Stocks declined sharply on reports that some Americans aboard the Sussex perished. WASHINGTON, March 26. Four Americans are reported to be missing on the Dominion liner Englishman, which was torpedoed in British waters. The State Department; is considering action. The newspapers deplore the uncertainty of the shipping situation, and point out that Dutch shipping cannot exist without free navigation in the North Sea and Channel routes, which are strewn with German mines. They wonder why the Government does not demand a clear declaration of Germany’s future attitude to neutral merchantmen. Although the Dutch Government is providing an escort preceded by mine-sweep-ers, many shipping companies are not taking risks until reasonable safety is assured. LONDON, ‘March 26. A Dutch Government vessel, preceded by mine-sweepers, will convoy merchantmen between the North Hinder lightship and British territorial waters. COPENHAGEN, March 26. Submarines are causing increased anxiety in Norway, especially in insurance circles. Neutral vessels worth 40,000,000 kroner wore torpedoed in a fortnight. Submarine activity has caused incipient panic on the Stock Exchange, and there was a general fall in steamship shares, until a well-known member purchased a million and a half, causing recovery and a slight advance. The newspaper Politiken states that steamers report seeing many of the newest, and fastest German submarines in the North Sea, near the British coasts. DUTCH SAILORS REFUSE TO LEAVE PORT.
