KEROSENE AND PETROL.

GOVERNMENT TO REGULATE PRICE. A Bill has been introduced by Sir Joseph Ward on behalf of the Government to regulate the price of mineral oils, upon which the Budget imposes a war tax of 4el a gallon. In somo parts of the Dominion the | rices of kerosene and petrol in stock, which has not paid duty, have been raised. The Bill sets out that tha new duties are to bi collected from August 26. To prevent tho imposition of such duties from being used as a pretext for an increase of pric- it is enacted that the maximum price of refined mineral oil imported into the Dominion before August 26, shall be the cur rent price at which goods of the same nature and quality were saleable in the same locality on August 20. The Act comes into f orce on September 1, and purchasers may demand from the seller a refund of any increased sum they may have paid for oil. The onus is on the seller to prove that, his stocks, when sold at an increased price, were imported after August 26. The Bill applies to kerosene, motor spiri", benzine, benzol, petrol, petroleum and similar oils. The Bill was passed through all its stages in the House last night.
