ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
(Pkr Prbsß Association.) HASTLNGS, Aug. 30. Whilst motor-cycling along the Ocean lleaen road yesterday, Stanley Robert Pitt son of Thomas Pitt, of Benoni. Hastings! went over a cutting. He struck a tree, being rendered unconscious, and was then precipitated into the Maraetotara river, where his body was found some time later. This is the third son of Mr Pitt lost during the last two years. One was killed in tiie landing at the Dardanelles.
HOKITIKA. Aug. 30. Max Ortermann, a .single man, aged 25. was killed in the Ross goldfields mine on baturday night whde engaged in timbering a crosscut drive. A heavy fall took place, completely burying him. It took five hours to recover the. body. His mate had a luckv escape, being thrown to safetv bv falling timbers. * ~ a DCNEDIN. Aug. 30. Florence Hurndell. aged 18, died suddenly at Palmerston South on Saturday while undergoing an operation for a septic throat.
