A hurricane at Nine Island in January blow down several "thousand eoeoanut trees and destroyed most of the bananas and bread fruit. The mission church at Mutalan had the roof blown off, and two other churches suffered some damage. Hundreds of native huc<> were destroyed or damaged. The (iovernment buildings escaped injury.
