MILITARY FUNERAL.

THE LATE PRIVATE REMNANT.

The funeral of Private Remnant, a mem--Im - of the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force, who was landed at Albany suffering from pneumonia last November, and who died tat the Albany Hospital on Friday, March 19, took place at Albany un the following Sunday afternoon, the remains being interred with full military honours. The funeral procession moved of! from the hospital in the following; order:—Firing party, drawn from the K A.A., under Sergeant Cassidy; Albany Band, playing "The Dead March." under ]>a!idn:aster O'Neill: gun carriage, bearing the corpse, drawn by members of the A.G.A.: detachment of the A.I.E. Force; squad of police, under Sergeant Kelso: detachment of the ooth Infantry: members of the A.(1.. R.A.A.. Senior Naval Cadets and Naval Reserves, under the Sub-Dis-trict Naval Oflicer (Mr E. S. Mutton): non-commissioned officers of the naval and military forces: l.ieut. Jones. R.A.A.. ( 'apt. Rlackburiie, l.ieut. \\ heeldon and Mr I". W. Illy the. i cpreseiit nig the l)en mark Rifle Club. The parade was m charge of Major Meeks. A.G.A. I'he route followed was down Vancouver street, into Parade street, along Duke street, up York street and along Middieton road to the Presbyterian Cemetery, where the remains were interred. The precession was a most impressive one. and a> it moved along the streets were lined with residents. Arrived at the cemetery, fully 2500 persons had assembled to pay their las; tribute of respect to the young soldier., who was on tiis way to tight for the Knipire when he was seized with the complaint which terminated his life. The funeral service was conducted at the graveside by the Rev, Henry Freeman, while Ratidmaster O'Neill and Corporal McCormack, of the band, sounded the "f.ast Post." Private Remnant was a son of. Mr and Mrs Remnant, of Te Mata ; . Paltnerston North, for whom much sympathy has been felt in their bereavement.
