ALLIES SMASH ALL GERMAN ATTACKS.

AND INFLICT 20,000 CASUALTIES. No More Sea Raids on British Coast Tow.is WHAT BEATTY'S VICTORY MEANS TO THE MOTHERLAND. New Russian Offensive.

The invariable brevity and stiffness of the official report of operations in France and Flanders is departed from to-day in order to remind the Kaiser that his birthday was not so fittingly celebrated as he might, have desired. In one way events were in keeping with his previous actions, for 20,000 Germans were slaughtered to g'ive him a pleasant surprise. All to no purpose, however, for the Allies achieved a series of brilliant successes, hurling' back every German attack. This, added to Ueatty's battle in the North Sea, does not augur a very happy year lor the War Lord. The importance of the naval victory is stressed to-day, and it is pointed out that England has now little to fear either from raid or invasion, because Germany's fast cruiser fleet is either at the bottom of the sea or else in hospital. There has been no news from Russia for some time except that cabled to-day announcing- a new offensive via Gumbinnen, in the extreme north of East Prussia, where the Russians are evidently already well established. This is interesting as recalling Russia s past dash into Prussian territory early in the war. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.—Per Presi Association.)
