WHAT INVESTIGATION PROVED.
(Bt Euunuc l-EutoHAPH—CorrßioHi.) (Plb , SYDNEYi-.Sept 10. *Mr Cheory, who was oominifisioned by the Commonwealth to investigate the operations of the Beef Truw* in America, reportf as the result of his investigations in England and America that certain large packing firms, particularly Armour, Swift, and Morris, are the greatest factors in American meat trade, end mutually work together to give uniform prices for certain qualities of live stock. The producer generally obtains fair prices, but the consumer is exploited to a certain extent, and a progressive competitor against the Beef Tru6t 'is apt to be ousted from business unlca he L eoncedee a share to the members of the Trust. There is no law in the United States to prevent under-selling. Mr Cherry arrived at the conclusion that Australia has much to fear from the incursions of meat firms who are units of the American Beef Trust. In the interest* of the community, ho maintains that the Commonwealth requires healthy competition by many good works with capitals of at least £50,000 and modem plant commensurate with the output.
