The Press Bureau confirms the statement that the Allies are gaining ground. The British drove the enemy back ten miles. PARIS, Sept. 8. An official communique states that the enemy is retiring in the i direction of the river Marne, be- 1 kween Meaux and Sezanne. , The Allies captured many prisoners, including an infantry battalion, a quickfirer company and caissons. There have been violent engagements between Fere-Cham-penoise and Vitry-le-Francois at the southern extremity of the Argoaine hills. The enemy did not succeed anywhere and fell back to Vitry-le-Francois.
