Stewart Riding.—Two small pipe culverts have been put in on the HalcombeMt. Stewart road, and weak places have been patched up with metal on the Feild-ing-Awahuri road. With reference to Mr Hunter's letter Feilding-Awahuri road,; I made an estimate of reconstructing the, flooded portions of this road some time back, and plans are now in the office showing the flooded portions and the cost of forming up each section above high water mark. The* total cost of raising the road is approtimately £I4OO. There is one culvert that should, be lengthened and the road made wider near the end of Jhe Kawa Kawa roa;d. Th<j culvert I ; refer to is right on a sharp corner, and is very dangewiiM/ improvement? should be effected without ci>l*y. fiw. McKen- j riesjruggoetion to construct 6 or 7-foot drain'on Mr Fraser'a side of the road for a distance of 30 chains, and fill in tho present drain eeems to me to be the best scheme, and will give the best results with the least expense. A drain such i as suggested by Cr. McKenzie would cost ] abouti £3 per chain to construct and fill in the ■ present road drain. Then there will, be | several culverts required, which would bring, the total up to about £l3O.
