Ltd., shipowners, have com-, pleted negotiations for the purchase of an oilfield in California. A company with a capital of £12,000,000 is being formed. It is understood the directors are Lord Pirie and Sir Owen Phillips. The company provides oil for the White Star, Royal Mail, Union Castle, and Cunard lines, and also builds a large fleet of tank steamers.

Herr Ballin, on behalf of the HamburgAmerica line, is negotiating to acquire oil properties in Mexico.
