To Kuiti and Taumaninui, in the heart of the N'orth Island, are examples of the colonial town in its. "half-baked" stage. These places, like many other in tho newly-broken districts, are growing up without any definite civic plan. After the fashion of tho old milling camps, tney just grow, houses and stores springing up anywhere am) anyhow. To Kuiti and Taumaranui must be important cities som< day. and they may be made verv beautiful cities, lying in a ring of hills, w ; tl clear rivers flowing through them. Tho people of those parts are too busy just yet to trouble much about town adornment, but they should l>e given a head (says the Lyttelton Times.)
