The position of the Government party in connection with the isay of Islands electorate was referred to by Mr Russell (Avon) to-night. He read an extract from a communication from a Bay of Islands corespondent which was published in the New Zealand Herald of June 10th, in which it was stated that it was reported that Mr Wilkinson (one of the Reform candidates) had been informed that hie name was on the list of suggested appointments to the Legislative Chamber, but that be had stated that if the offer of a seat in the Upper House were made to him he would refuse to accept it. Mr Massey: Who said that? Mr Russell: The New Zealand Herald. Mr Massey: Was it not made by a correspondent? Mr Russell did not reply to this question, but asked 'Do you deny that Mr Wilkinson's name was on the list?" Mr Massey: No one has seen that list except myself. Mr Russell: I am told that the list contains 400 names. Reference was also made by Mr Russell to the position at Palmerston, where Mr Buick and Mr Nash are both announced as Reform candidates. "I am told." he said, "that Mr Buick's name was also on the list. Is that true?" Mr Massey: Ask Mr Buick. Mr Russell: He is not in the Chamber just at this moment, I am sorry to say. Hon. Jas.
