THE CARNIVAL.
POSITION OF CANDIDATES.
This week's announcement of the respective positions of the candidates leaves the position of last Saturday unaltered. Miss Taylor still being in the van. An excellent week was recorded by Misses Millar, Mailman and Harris respectively, voting being very heavy. The position * is:-Mi? s Taylor (pink) 1, Miss Millar (purple) 2, Miss Mailman (blue) 3. Miss Harris (red) 4. Miss Cook (green) 5. TUG-OF-WAR.
Entries are invited from teams of eight for the tug-of-war contest during Carnival Week. Major Dunk will judge thia competition, and the conditions are that it will be pulled on bare floor in stockinsrd feet The prize money is liberal—£4 for - first and £2 for second team. Entrv for each team ie 8s (Is per man), and the best two pulls out of three to win each bout. The committee will supply the rope, and during the nights the contest is on contestants will bo admitted free.
SKATING AND POSTER CARNIVAL. Poster and Fancy Dress Skating Carnival will be on a scale hitherto not attempted in Palmerston North. There will be numerous events with handsome trophies for competitions, and those requiring skates will be able to get them at the rink. Supper will also be available for all at sixpence per head. Ample seating accommodation for onlookers will be provided, and scats may be booked at Mr J. H. Watt's. The floor will be specially treated bv a working bee before the function, and will be in excellent condition, so that skaters will be well catered for. LIVING BRIDGE This is an original idea designed bv Mrs and Miss McKinnon, of Palmerston North, and will be one of the finest spectacular items for Carnival Week. GENERAL The Druids are making a special effort to provide a good night's enjoyment for patrons at their dance on Wednesday night next. Mr W. Larkins has been specially engaged to supply the music, and the floor will receive a special preparation. The whole of the net proceeds of this dance will be given to Miss Taylor's Queen of the Carnival fund, whose supporters are requested to attend in large numbers. A tango tea is to be tendered Miss Harris, the No. 2 (red) candidate, at the Alexandra Tearooms on Wednesday next. The tea will last from three till five, during which time visitors will be free to come and go. An exhibition of the tango will be given by Madame Irene Connop and Mr Gough. A choice musical programme will also be rendered. The Palmerston North Band will play for Miss Cooke outside Collinson and Cunninghame's from 8 to 9 this evening.
