Mr W. H. Baillie, a member of ths Carterton Borough Council, died in Wellington on Thursday evening.
The death occurred in Christchurch on Thursday of Mr James MacKintosh, who on several occasions has been chief of tht Scottish Society in that city.
Sir Joseph Ward will be among the guests at the annual dinner of the local branch of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association this evening. He is expected to arrive from Welington by the main trunk express this afternoon.
News has been received of the death at Cambridge of the wife of Mr G. B. Simpson, a very well-known resident of the Cblyton district for many years, who went to, Cambridge with her family some 12 yean ago. Mrs Simpson leaves her husband and a grown up family. Mr Fred Pirani has been removed to a private hospital at Fcilding, it beinjr considered by his medical adviser that the complete rest which can be ensured in such an institution will materially expedite the patient's recovery. The doctor is well pleased with the progress Mr Pirani is making'. Mr V. Calleson. of Raumai, who has decided to take up his residence in the vioinity of Longburn, was presented by settler* of the Pchangina Valley last Monday with a serviceable travelling rue as a mark of the esteem in which he is held Mr Calleson has resided in the Valley for the past 85 years.
At a meeting of the Campbell street Old Boys' Hockey Club last erening, Mr W. Skinner wae presented by members of the club with a silver epergne, to mark the occasion of his recent marriage. Mr J. Fit*, who made the presentation, referred in felicitous terms to the esteem in which Mr Skinner was held by the dub members.
