ALL SAINTS' CHURCH.
AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS. no rat EDITOB.) Sir.—May we use the column* of your valuable paper to invite the church people of this scattered parish, and any others who are interested, to a meeting of parishioners to be held in Use old church on Friday next. June 26 ei 8 p.m., to consider the question of raising the balaix* 1 still required, so that the ww church maT bo consecrated on Sundav, NoTombor Ist—All Saints' Dav.
There i« still some £ISOO required if tho new church is to be consecrated free of anr kind of debt £IOOO will clear off the actual contract yW. end £SOO for seat*, deodite. balance of architects' fees, etc. Is it too much to hope that, in spite of whst has been done in tho past two years, this sum may yet bo raised ? It ia a challenge to Palmerston in general and the church-people in particular for this reason: We believe that Pa|merrton is the only town in New Zealand which ha* been called upon to tmild a permanent Anglican Church without any kind o ( endowment or church acre at its heck. If we »<<« to it that this church is paid for br the time it is conperrated. wo shall not onlv start without an incubus of a debt upon us. but we shall set an inspiring example to number* of parishes when ♦hey. in their turn, endeavour lo build their churches. The opportunity is unique, and if we fail to vije it in the eourap of the next few months—it is Bono for *-»er. Up to the present the worn- and anxiety of financing this effort has fallen upon a few shoulders which are just a wee bit tir<d of the strain. We no more enjoy the somewhat unpleasant work of "raising money" than those who are asked to contribute. W« feel, however, that this chance, or shall we call it privilege, of seeing this matter through is too precious to be lo?r. and it iswith confidence we appeal to all who are interested to do thtir bit of work betw**n now and October, to see this undertaking through to a successful issue. Evervone foems proud of the church as an asset to the town, and to all who ps*« through Palmerjton by train it presents a striking svmbol of the town's proeress and pro«peritr. We would make the following pro position as a practical wav of raising the £ISOO required: £ 20 people to gire or be responsible for raiding £lO between now and October 200 50 people to give or be responsible for Tsisinsr £5 between now and October 25f, 200 people to give or be responsible for raising £2 between now snd October 40C 650 p<v>p!c in give or be responsible for raising £1 between now and October 651 £ISOO Could not those who meet an Fridnv eorr'itute themselves into an emergency committed. wHi power to n<ld. who will *av. "W* will «eo this vn*|||r through, cost what it may. in time or fWlble " We Ilita pot th* chance of praoti'inir a lit:!" 1 >i«m. which means willingness to work ard sacrifioe for a cau*o. There are manv people in thi* di«triet who owe much of whs* they possess to the irrowth and deTelanmerit of this town. We cannot help feeling that the completion of this good offers eaeh and all who hare n sense of oratitud«» io the Almirhtv the opportunitv of saving "Th.ink God'' in a practical wst. —Yours, etc..
