ANNUAL CONGRESS. (Pir Pbisb Association.) WELLINGTON, June 24. The twenty-eighth annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance and Dominion Congross began in Wellington to-day. The Mayor welcomed tho dele-rates, who numbered 180 from all parts of the Dominion. At the Congress breakfast, Rev. W. J. Connie, chairman of tho Executive, said tin Alliance embraced all parties, so far a; ]x>litics wa» concerned; it embraced all creede, so far as religion was concerned; and it embraced all coloure and nation alitics.. Its goal was the abolition of th< liquor traffic in New Zealand, lie hopei their goal was not far distant. They had ih<> majority of people behind (hem. Thej had never before found their opponents r anxious. so determined, eo compactly organ ised, «o lavish with their money, and » intent ».n trying to defeat the Alliance. Th< liquor party realised that they were ap preaching their Waterloo, and they realise* ihe nearness of the dissolution of thei> awful business. H:> was inclined to thin! they would see Federal prohibition carriec in the United States even before it wa6 car tied in New Zealand. He rejoiced at thci; prospecU of success. Addresses wore also delivered bv Mrs A R. Atkinson. Mrs H. Leo Cbwie, Rev. P. S Smtllfield. and Messrs A. Toombs and C H. Toole.
