FIRE AT SHANNON.
EASTON BROS'. HOMESTEAD DESTROYED. NARROW ESCAPE OF MR H. EASTON. NO INSURANCES. (Special to "Stakdap.d.") (Bi Telequaph.) SHANNON. June 24. A fire occurred at Messrs Easton Bros', property at Buckley, Shannon, la=t. night. At about 11.50 it was discovered that the homestead was on dire, li is thought the outbreak originated in a defective, chimney. The house" was soon a mass of flames, it being an old building which has been added to from time to time. There were six occupants of the house, including Messrs Ken nnd Hewitt Easton. All escaped safely partially dressed except Mr H. Easton, who was sleeping in a room bv himself. 'On waking he evidently found the doorway a mass of flames and endeavoured to get through the window. He found r jammed, and had to smash the glass and crawl through. In doing so lie cut his arm badly, and had to be conveyed to Foxton for medical treatment. H" is reported io be progressing favourably this morning. There was no insurance on the building, and the Easton Bros, are heavy losers.
