INTERESTING COMPENSATION CASE.
(Peb Phess Association.) WANG AN I'l, March 23. At the Arbitration Court, to-day Mrs Carleton sued F. Hague for compensation for the doat'h of her husband who ivas employed by defendant as driver of a wool waggon and who was killed at Ctiku 011 January loth. The defence alleged there was 110 proof that deceased was the husband of claimant, and in any case she was not dependant upon him for support. Evidence showed that Carleton left his wife in Canterbury 17 years ago aiid went to the llangitikei district. Ho sent his wife money for a few years and then ceased doing so. She never heard anything further of him till his death, although she endeavoured to trace him. In the meantime she supported herself and brought up her family, but now, owing to ill-health, she was unable to work. Lengthy evidence as to identity was given.
The Court declared it was satified that a prima facie case as to identity had been made out.
Argument then proceeded as to whether plaintiff was a partial or total dependent. Judgmant was reserved.
