Rev. J. 11. Ilaslam. of Pahnetston North, was called away from the Methodist Conference at Dunedin owing to the serious illness of his father at. New Plymouth. A critical operation was performed ve6terday. which was successful, and Mr Haslam returned to Palmerston to-day to resume his ministerial duties.
The Vory Rev. Dean McKenna, VicarGenera!, accompanied by the Rev. Father Tom McKenna, of Pahiatua, arrived at Fromantle on Tuesday, will reach Wellington on March 25. News has just been received that the aged mother of the rev. gentlemen died in County Kilkenny, Ireland, two weeks after her sons had departed for New Zealand.
The Japanese are artistic to a degree, and Japanese art is being featured in a window display at Collinson and Cunninghame's. Framed water-colours, by Japanese artists, are shown. Each is a little gem of land or water, typical bits from Cherry Blossom Land, fiach water-colour has the artist's signature. Priced from 2s 6d to 7s lid.— Aclvt.
