The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.C v. us held yesterday afternoon in St. Andrew's schoolroom. There was « good attendance of members, Mrs Crabb presiding. Jk A Her Bible reading and prayer, an initiatory service was held for the reception of new members. A di«fc-ussion took place upon the proposed Stead memorial, and a good deal of correspondence wa« read regarding it. It was decided to forego acting in connection with ; :- >■ em-rial and to confine the efforts of '■-• '■ . iri to obtaining n women's hostel in ■ T ■ -.".0n with the local work. /•pcc.al thanks were accorded Mr Clausen '* ■-• ■• "■• s p of a large room in Alain street. '■•' has given to the Union. '.■■•' appointment of a resident doctor in •■•e public hospital in Palmendon «:i, dis- ■ '■'■•'; ; . and the following resolution was unanimously carried:--"That the member."i rhe W.C.T.I'. request the Hospital Board to take into consideration the urgent need for a resident surgeon in our local h -.oiral."
Special reference wa.s made concerning tin democratic pledge and the appoinlment of an agent for this work.
