NEW SUGGESTION FOR COMPROMISE.

Smith's reference to the homogeneous counties of Ulster The Daily Telegraph asks whether it is a suggestion that a basis for a conference on the Ulster position could bo found by omitting Antrim, Dcrry, and Armagh. It is understood that Mr F. E. Smith consulted prominent Unionists in England and also Sir Edward Carson before hie speech. ' DISSENSION SPREADS OVERSEAS. Received October 4. 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 4. A sensation was caused in the Legislative Council by Dr. Nash giving notice of intention to ask if the Government is aware that a member of this House, a Justice of the Peace, and a Knight of the British Empire, had contributed a large sum towards insisting persons threatening rebellion against (ho Government of the British Empire; and if .so, whether the Government is jroing to remove him from the rolls of the House and Justices of the Peace, and report he matter to the King. The Questions refer to Sir Samuel McCauyhey's gift to the Ulster cause.
