MESSAGES OF CONGRATULATION
AWAITING THE ARRIVAL. Received October 4, 10.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 4. The messages of congratulation on tin arrival of the fleot include -.hose from Hon. W. F. Mnssey and Sir Joseph Ward, and Hon. R. L. Borden (Canada). Mr Massey says: "New Zealand admire? and congratulates the Commonwealth on the patronism and fclf-sacrifice of its people in assisting the Empire by undertaking s< splendid a contribution to the naval.defence of the southern sea?. New Zealand iook* forward to an oarly opportunity of wel coming the fleet." Mr Borden says: "Be assured that Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with Australia and o'her oversea Dominions in a hrrr re?olvo to safeguard our common heritage."
Since an early hour there has been a steady stream of people to tho outer cliff? and foreshores of the harbour to await tIK arrival of tho ships.
