Mr C. Ross returned on Tuesday from his trip to Christchureh. A meeting was held in the Anglican Church on Monday night ° £ those who arc interested in the Ijible-insehools, with the result that a branch of the league was formed in Shannon. The Rev. J. A. McKcn/ie was elected president, Rev. ('. Palmer vice-president, and Mr J. Crawford secretary. Those present formed themselves imo a committee. The Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt visited Shannon on Monday.

Mr Easson has uisposed of his farm in the Kinston road to Mr Knight, of the Hutt.

At hockey Shannon defeated the Levin Y.M.C.A. bj 5 goals to nii. St. Joseph's Catholic Church is being entirely redecorated inside. Two splendid stained glass windows, one of St. Joseph and the other oi St. John, havo been put in the back of the church. The Debating Society concluded the fourth session on Tuesday night with a social evening in the Druid's Hall, when the whole of tho entertainment was contributed by the male members of the Society. The fn>st item on the programme was "A meeting of the Shannon Indies' Sewing Guild. *' when the gentlemen took the ladies' parts, several topical hits being introduced, including skits on tho recent competitions. The other half of the programme was devoted to the fir ■'■ appearance of Sclby's Band. Mr W. ('. Clayton officiated as conductor. The bind played several line selections. During the evening fire brigade competitions were held. The ladies beat the gentlemen, and the married 'beat the single. An advertisement competition was won by Mr Sinclair. After a sumptuous supper, provided by the gentlemen, the evening closed with the singing of "Auld I*ang Syne."
