TARANAKI STOCK MARKET.
New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, LYd., Stratford branch, report as follow.*: On Wednesday, 20th August, wc held our usual monthly sale in our" To Wera yarde, when there was only a small yarding of about 50 head of cuttle, the sheep entered not coming forward. Empty heifers sold at 68s to 765, store cows 70s to 755, and up to 100s for forward cows, email yearling steers 27s 6d to 40s, fat ewes up to 22e.
On Tuesday, 20th August, wo held our usual fortnightly salo in our Stratford saleyards, when there were übout 350 lioud of cattle yarded. There was a very large attendance of the public, buyers also being present from Manaia, Awatuna, Kohuratalii, and Hunterville. Ridding was very brisk for most saleable lines, and a fair clearance was effected. In the dairy pen* ther© was a large entry and good competition ruled, a lot of good forward heifcre l>eing sold at satisfactory prices, but poor quality and aged cows did not meet with favour. Yearling Shorthorn heifers, poor condition and small, made from 35s to 55s for fair cattle; fair yearling etecrs mado up to 565; coloured yearling heifers from 67s to 90s; 18 to 24-months empty heifers 70a 6d to 80s; 2-year steers 85s to 965; 6iore cows, small and low condition, 22s 6d to 575; ordinary torts 65s to 85s; forward cows 89s to Ills for fresh-cenditioned lines; bulk small. 50s to 655. In tho dairy |>ens, Shorthorn heifers close to profit and good quality 130s to 160s; backward and small 95s to 1355; Jersey springing heifers, close. 155s to 190s; ftnall and backward 80s to 1455; dairy cows, ordinary quality 100s to 1655; aged cows not in demand. 1009 to 110s. held our usual monthly auction sale of wool, sheepskins, hide*. calf-skins, and tallow on Tuesday, when there was a fair catalogue and a largo attendance of buyers, bidding "being brivk and values showing a decided advance on previous sale.*. Sheepskins in good condition brought, from 6|d to 8d per lb. medium woolled 5d to 7Jd per lb. half-woollcd 5d to 7d per lb; green skins up to 6s each, damaged lid each, torn skins 3s 4d each, and black skins 3s each. Wool: Good clean crutchings brought 7d per lb, and medium lines from 5Jd to b\d per lb. Cowhides from s»d to Bsd. ox hides to 7ad. yearling hide* 3£d to 6d, calf-skins. good ll|d, medium; 6Jd to 7Jd. and rendered tallow 22s 6d iter cwt. Sine© we last reported there has been a keen demand for el] classes of stock, at advanced rates, more particularly for sheep. Hoggets were sold at lis. 12s 3d, 12s 6d. 13s 6d. to 14s for good, heavy wool led line*; ewes, aged. 12« 6d for small, up to l?s 6d and 18s for young fair lines, but thero was nothing special offering in this line. Yearling steers were placed at 565. 57s 6d. 58s, and up to 61* 6c J / for a nice lino, well-grown, and good co.'iirs; Shorthorn empty heifers 50s to 59s 6d; Jersey-Holstcin hoifefs (favourite colour at present) from 70s for small-grown up to 100.; for nice line; springing heifers. Shorthorn class. £6 to £6 6s; dairy cows up to £8 10s.
NEWTON KING'S REPORT. Newton King reports:— At T'renui on Monday 1 had a very heavy entry of dairy cattle, of which 149 were cleared at the hammer. Tho herd of 19 cows offered en account of Mrs S. Marsh. I'ruti, were a very nice lot averaging £lO s*. Choicest, cows pold at from £l2 to £ls IDs. good cows £9 15s to £lO 10s. aged cows £5 10s to £6. 2 quarter cows £5. The springing heifers yarded were, a particularly fine lot, mostly Shorthorn, but some choice Jerseys wer<> offered. A very nice Jersey heifer realised £ls. other Jerseys £7 5s to £8 20s, best Shorthorn heifers £7 5s to £8 15*. heifers, hit backward £5 5s to £6. small £4 2s 6d to £5 ss. dairy cows up 1o £7 ss. On Tins day, 26th inst., in my Rahotu yards I had a good entry, all pen- and races being well filled. There was a good attendance of buyers, making pofnpetition brisk fcr el' classes.
