PRECAUTIONS WANTED

WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. In the House to-day Mr J. A. Young (Waikato) gave notice to ask tho Minister of Hallways whether with a view U> giving a direction to inventors of safety signals for level railway crossings !ie will take lite advice of his rcsj>onfiible officers and m the public interest Announce what length of time (time to he given in the Railway Depa! I ineni lays down as the maximum that an automatic danger signal should o])erate and indicate danger before tho engine arrives at the level crossing.
A further question addressed by Mr Young to the Minister of Railways was; What is the maximum f]x>cd laid down by the regulations, if any, nt which an oxprofs train in New Zealand is permitted to travel over a level crossing at which there is no crossing keeper or bell signal, and in the absence of any such regulation will ho take tho advice of his responsible officers and at an early date fix such maximum of ppeod?
