HOCKEY.

YESTERDAY'S GAMES

A heavy westerly galo made matters decidedly unpleasant for hockeyites and supporters of the same yesterday. Nevertheless quite a large number of interested spectators gathered, principally to tee the way the ladies' ''rep." team would shape against a strong combination picked to meet them. The game whs, of course.-to a large extent interfered with by the wind, but the girls to do battle next week at Wangamii gave a promising exhibition. The. opinion was expressed that this year's team is one of the best ever selected, to represent Manawatu. The players are young and appeared as fit as possible for the strenuous week they will shortly undergo. It is also interesting to note that another team. Hawke's Bay, will also be comprised of young players this year. The local girls had no difficulty yesterday in piling up 5 goals to their opponents' 1. The latter were a strong eleven and included many who give promise of being in the ffont rank next year.

J)E IX EX (TP FIXTURES. Old Boys (8) defeated Phoenix (2), The game was easily the most willing played this year, and was characterised by hard hitting and at times a good deal of bustling between players. Neither team had its hill strength. Post Office (4) defeated Juniors (3). Tlie blacks have had their team seriously depleted since "the season commenced and just managed to defeat the junior combination.

Palmorston (3) v. Technical School (8). After a willing "go" these two fought out a draw. The "School" has improved wonderfully since the season started, and if they hold together next season should make a bold bid for the shield.
