MANAWATU LAND DRAINAGE BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu Land Drainage Board was held to-day. Present: Trusteta Best (chairman). Voss, Garriiv. Wood, and Thomas.
KARERE ROAD DRAIN. E. M. John«ton wrote, drawing the attention to the Karero road drain. —lt was decided to reply that the drain would be attended to in due course. NEWBURY ROAD DRAIN.
Eight settlers of Newbury line. wrot.e objecting to the construction of the drain now being dug to run water into Newbury creek, alleging that their property would be liable to fiooding, and requesting that the work Ik- stopped. Intimation was also given that a deputation would wait on the Board.
Subsequently Messrs G. Knight) and Gore waited upon the Board in connection with the matter.
Mr Knight said was no adequate provision to take the water awav, and his wife's property was liable to flooding. Tin* creek would not carry any more water than it did now. The engineer said the outlet had been considerably widened and the creek could carry the water.
Mr Gore stated the property had l>ecn flooded three tinu* already ihi* year. The Chairman said the Board would take the matter into consideration. They were there to protect the interests of the ratepavers. Mr Knight asked if they could stop the work.
The Chairman replied they could not do that.
Mr Knight then stated they would liavc to consider their properties and hold the Board responsible. Th# deputation then retired. It wae resolved that no action lie taken, the Hoard considering the ratepayer? concerned would npt be harmed by the work.
GENERAL. On the motion of Trustee Wood and Garritr. it tru decided to a*k Mr Do vine to rnmorc tho centre pier of a bridge <ner the Mangaoneon his property at Awapuni. as it was reported to be an obstruction to the flow of the stream.

Trustees Wood and Thomas reported !.aving waited on the Kairanga IVumty C'ouneii in connection with the midd!e lAorangi roat! improvement. They had tnad" an offer of £1 per chain towards the «»>♦ of the work, but the Council had not int'mated it* acceptance yet. The Chairnuir of the Sfsttor body had pointed out that there was no urgent necessity for the work at this time of the year. It was resolved, on the motion of Trustee? Best and Garrity, that the .\lana«atn Board pay cne-half the cost of the proposed work ut) to the sunt of £3? It was decided to give notice that ail ra*es be paid before the end of the month.
