ANTARCTIC FISHES.

I MR. WAITE TO REPORT. CHRISTCHUROH, May 28. Mr E. R. Waite, curator of Canterbury Museum, who is the highest authority in Australasia on ichthyology, has received a letter from Professors David and Haswell, of Sydney, on behalf of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, stating that they have received a wireless message from Dr. Mawson expressing a wish that he should prepare the report on the fishes of the expedition. Mr Waite has replied stating that he would be pleased t# do the work. He has in hand already the fishes which he collected at the Macquarie and Auckland Islands when he went to the Southern Ocean in Dr. Mawson's exploring vessel the Aurora last year. In addition those specimens from Adelie Land in the Antarctic will be forwarded to him. Wjhen this work is completed Mr Waite will have a very extensive knowledge of the fishes of the Antarctic, as he reported on the fishes obtained by Sir Ernest Shackleton's Expedition. This report was published. in London, together with other scien-l tific results of Sir Ernest's Expedition.
