TAINUI-INCA COLLISION.
HOW THB< PASSENGERS WERE TRANSFERRED. INCA BADLY DAMAGED. (Bi Electric Telegbaph—Coptbioht.) (Peb Pbbm Association.) LONDON, May 28. The pumps are working on the Tainui's No. 1 hold. The cargo in No. 2 hold is washing about. The captain proposes to stop the leaks and proceed to the Thames. The passengers who have landed at Plymouth describe their transfer to the Garth Castle as being like a regatta procession. The sea was quite smooth. All the boats were lashed together to avoid being lost in the fog. The women and children were first placed in the Tainui's boats; then the married men, and finally the single men. The Garth Castle was a quarter of a mile distant at the time. The fog continued to prevail until they reached the Lizard. The Inca, which collided with the Tainui, was bound from Newcastle for Marseilles. She has arrived at Vigo. Her bows are stove in and her forepeak is Hooded. A BIG HOLE. DECK LIKE THE SIDE OF A HILL. A DENSE FOG. Rceeived May 29, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, May .28. The Tainui has a hole three feet by two. It is being temporarily repaired at Cor- ; unna. All the meat in No. 1 hold is bad, and will probably be jettisoned. No. 2 hold ' was not flooded. The passengers were not informed of the seriousness of the collision till the evening, ' when the vessel's bows sank till walking the deck was like climbing a hill. ] Later the passengers were advised to retire. The majority did so, and were awakened at two in the morning. Life ' belts were then served out.
