PALMERSTON BRASS BAND.
TO PURCHASE NEW INSTRUMENTS. IF THE CARNIVAL IS A SUCCESS. A special, meeting of the Palmerston Brass Band and its supporters was held on Tuesday evening l to consider the purchase of a new set of Season's plated enharmonic instruments, to cost £630. The Mayor presided, and a sub-committee was set up with power to act. Last evening the Mayor, Major Dunk. and Messrs W. Park, E. R. B. Holbcn. Berryman, and Kendall met Mr Payne, representative of a music firm, and fully discussed the matter It was decided to give an order for the instruments, subject to the carnival, now in progress, turning out a financial success. Thus it is that the confirmation of the purchase will entirely depend upon the support accorded those ladies and gentlemen and the members of the Band, who are endeavouring to raise the money on the carnival. Any donations received will materially assist the committee in its present proposal. The instruments now in use are in such a state that it is impossible for the Band to play them in tune. In appealing to the public, it is pointed out that for a long time past members of the Band have been playing at different entertainments, and giving their time to the work, and that payment for their services has been paid into the general fund to keep the Band afloat.
