NEW DEFENCE REGULATIONS.
CAMP CHAPLAINS AND EXEMPTIONS. Now regulations governing the Defence Forces New Zealand are published in this week's Gazette. Regulation 597 is revoked, and the following is substituted in lieu thereof: "Provided that there are at least fifty |of hid denomination present, in camp, one jchaplain of each denomination shown in the Army Lists, and allowances as for territorial officers —viz., 4s per diem for messing whilst in camp, and travelling allowance while going to and from same. This wili not preclude other chaplains from attending camps, but these will not be entitled to pay, allowances, or rations." The chaplains entitled to draw pay, etc., at camp will be selected by the senior chaplain of each denomination in each military district." The following additional regulation, exemptions from personal service, is made: "A member of the Military Forces desirous of obtaining exemption from personal service on the grounds that undue hardship is caused by the requirements of such service (Section 32 (n), Defence Amendment Act, 1912), will first give fourteen days' notice to the effioer commanding his unit, and at the expiration of that period the applicant will make written application to the nearest Magistrate's Court. The officer commanding the unit will inquire into the merits of each case, and within the fourteen days will notify the Clerk of the Magistrates Court whether he recommends or intends to oppose the application."
