FARMER BURNS NEIGHBOUR'S HAYSTACK.
AND GUARDS IT WITH LOADED GUN. AN ACT OF REVENGE. (Pin Pbiss Association.) DANNEVIRKE. Fob. 15. On Thursday evening last when the bush fiies were raging a haystaek belonging to a farmer named Hans Bui was destroyed. Suspicion fell on Thomas C. Kershaw, the occupier of the adjoining farm of having s><-t the stack alight as a revenge for hi* d< trt,ruction of his stack through the alleged spreading of the fire from Bai's farm. Kershaw was drunk at the time and kept guard in tho vicinity of the stack with a loaded gun until the hay wa« consumed. Before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., this morning he was charged with arson and attempting to discharge a loaded gun at Charles Bai. Accused admitted setting fire to the stack and having taken the gun to return the fire of Bai's if they shot at him. Tho aocusud pleaded guilty to arson, the charge of attempting to shoot being dismissed, there being no evidence bup|K>rting it. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
