ACRKTLTCRM. LABOUR
A letter was received from the Dominion secretary of the Fanners' Union, with reference to farm labourers and (Joinestics I lie Government, it was explained, had under consideration the question of itnmigration in regard to these labourers, and the Minister had asked to be supplied with some definite particulars of the requirements of the Dominion, both in respect to the labour and the numbers. This branch w-as asked to take steps to draw up a list of farmers who required labour now or within the course of the next two or three months
The chairman thought that they shouJd take some action in regard to the request. The labouring class in New Zealand formed a floating population, and in recent years the employee had got into such a position that lie could simply do what he liked. Of course, they could not "guarantee to keep any number of men if they came out from England.
Oth«r meinlters complained that farm employees were always on the move lroin one place to another.
The following motion was passed: "That this meeting is of opinion that a cert, m amount of lal»our could br» employed in this district, but owing to the nature of the employment it would only mean a limited number. DISPOSAL OF STOCK. The Sounds branch of the Union wrote asking for an opinion on a scheme for the mutual co-operation between members of the I nion m the disposal of stock. Th<> members generally considered the question impracticable, "and the matter was held over for further consideration. GENERAL. The chairman welcomed back Mr J. Bal--illie. who recently returned from a trip to England The question of land tax versus income tax will be discussed the next meeting of the branch.
