A -meeting is being _ held here on Wednesday dV the' purpose of forming' an Association Football-Club.-

• A hockey match 'was played here on Wednesday between Kimberley Road Club and Shannon, on the racecourse,.which resulted in Shannon scoring 2- goals to the visitors' 1.

The card tourmnent on Wednesday night, between Miranui and the Mechanics' Institute, resulted in a walk-over for - the Institute team,' the former failing to ptif in an appearance. Next Wednesday they play the townspeople. Mrs and ' Miss Laurvig returned from their tour of the North Island on Wednesday.

The Debating Society hold their openingsocial on Tuesday night, in the Druids' Hall. A very comprehensive syllabus has been drawn up by the committee for this session. It includes one Shakespearian evening; also a mock trial.

'Mr Footc, owner of the sawmill' ■ at. Makcrua, met with a misty accident on •Thursday. He was returning to Shannon on his. motor cycle, and on passing Makcrua station, was knocked down' by a horse iind trap, which shied at-the painters at work thore. . He was conveyed, to Shannon, and Dr. Adams was summoned from Foxton, who, on. examining him, . found that ho had broken a rib, which had pierced his lung. Mr Footp is still in a very serious condition. •

At the Druids' meeting at Tokomaru on Thursday eight new members were initiated into tho order.

On Thursday night a large number of Ah- McC'all-'s friends assembled to bid him farewell. A very pleasant evening., was spent. Mr McCall, who organised the hockey team here. lias left for Napier, where lie has been offered a very lucrative position.' , ' i. ' ■ ' On Friday night the 'combine'd Athletic Sports Clubs held their first social, which proved a great success. A large number of dancers were present. Mr E, J, King ofiiciated as M,C. During the -evening songs were sung tjy Messrs Hooker ami Pressor. The .shooting match was held on Saturday for a handsome trophy, presented bv Mr J. Hallain, the distances being 800 and 900 yards. The result was : as follows: Rifleman Shearman'(scr) 52 E. W. Sutton-(Mr) 60. E. Law (8) 60,8. F. 'Spencer (6) 50, H. Sutton (10) 51. Nexl ; week a competition will be held, for other trophy,, presented bv :Mr Hallan, the distanco to be 900' and 1000 vards. ' ■
