We beg to draw your attention to _ the following charges which we have received from the' London Port Authority and Storage Companies:—"Notice is hereby given that in consequence of the additional expenses entailed by the recent increase in wages, all the existing dues, : rates, rent, and charges (other than river i tonnage dues on vessels, river tolls, and : port rates on goods), on vessels, lighters, and merchandise will, as from tho 14th inst., bo increased by ty per cent., pending the revision in detail on the several rate books and tariffs."
ADDINGTON MARKET. , (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 4. At. the Aldington live stock market thoiie wero moderate cntcriea 'of all classes of stock and a fail* attendance. Fat dattlo sold at about the previous week's rates. Store sheep wero a shade firmer. Fufc lambs sold well aim the fat 6heep salo opened firm, prices rising from : 6d to Is per head.' Fat pigs met with a I good demand at the previous week s ■ prices. Store cattle were in good tle--1 mand, and pigs sold well. There was a small lhixed yarding of storo sheep, Ewo lambs, of which there wero several lines, sold at improved prices, crossbreds selling upto 14s 9d, and a lino of lialfbreds was passed at 14s lOd. Several lots brought up to 14s 9d, and a lino of lialfbreds was 9a. Ewes with lambs also sold _bettor,good lines with young ewes making 12s 6d, all counted. Aged ewes with good I lambs 8s 7d, and eight-tooth Down ewes with lambs 9s 6d all counted. Forward crossbred wethers sold up to 16s 3d, lialfbreds 15s 8d to 15s 9d. Several lines of sheep were passed at bids above the parity of la to values, but now that there is a. good growth of grass and fine spring weathor has set in holders are looking for better prices. Thero were 103 fat lambs penned, and the quality showed an improvement on tho yarding of the week before. Prices wore accordingly better on the average, but lambs made 16s to 18s 3d, and others 13s 6d to 15s 9d. Tho yarding of fat sheep was a moderate one in point of numbers, and was principally mado up of Southland sheep, of which thero were 6ome exceptionally good lines. Thero was an active demand, and last week's rates wero improved upon by 6d to Is per head. Tho range of prices was; Extra, prime wethers to 355, primo 22s to 22s 6d, others 20s to 21s 6d, extra prime ewes to 355, primo 19s to 245, others 17s 8d to 18$ 6d, hoggets 13s 3d to 20s 6d, merino wethers 20s 2d. The supply of beef totalled 205 head, nearly one-half of tho number being from (lie North Island, of excellent quality. The! demand was keen and prices were fully up to those of the week beforo. Steers made £8 7s 6d to £l2, extra to £l2 10s, heifers £5 17s to £lO, extra to £l2 10s, cows £6 to £9 7s 6d, and extra to £lO 7s 6d, equal .•'to 40s for extra prime, 30s to 35s for prime, 26s to 29s 6d for medium and 24s (kl to 25s 6d for cow and inferior per | lOOlbs.
