A DECANTER OF WHISKY.

A cliargo of having stolen a decanter of whisky, value 14s, from the Commercial Hotel on Monday, was brought agamet Walter Robert Page and George Shaw, alias Kellv, alias Watson, alias McKay, at the Police Court this morning, boloro Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M. Sub-Inspector Norwood prosecuted, and accused were not represented by counsel. All witnesses were ordered out of Court. Lily Ilodson. barmaid at tho Comirer- j cial Hotel, stated'that, tho two accused camo into tho bar about two o'clock on Monday afternoon. She put a decanter ot whisky on tho counter, and subsequently missed it. Thcro were several men in tho bar; the two accused^ had gone. \ >tness asked tho men remaining in tho bar if they had tho whisky, and they rep;iod that they had not. Pago came back in ten minutes or a quarter of an hour, and Shaw returned later. Witness told Page about the decanter, and he said ho knew whero it was. She told him to fetch it back, but ho did not make any reply. Parts had asked for a bottle of whisky on crecl-t, and witness told him to go to ft'r Childs, tho proprietor. Thia was beforo the decanter was missed. After hearing the evidence of tho hotel proprietor, tho police, and others, Bis Worship entered a conviction against both accused. Shaw, who is an old offender, was sentenced to thr<;e months' imprisonment, and Pago,. who also lias previous convictions against his name, to two months'.
