CAMPBELL STREET SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held last evening. There wero present:—Rev. T. T. Thomas (in the chair), and Messrs J, C, Swallow, A, E. Clausen, E. lfolbrook, A. J. Cobb, G. Allnian, B. Gittings, A. Pickering and C. Fraser (secretary), A letter was received from the Wnngitnui Education Board stating that negotiations for the acquisition of a school site, at the western end of Palmerston North had been concluded and that it was the intention of the Board to make application to the Government, for a grant for the erection of a bui|ding to accommodate 300 pupils. The headmaster's report read as follows : Number of half-days open 40, average roll 759.2, average attendance 694.9, highest roll 710, present roll 7G3. The attendance, average was very good. The second term exam, had been concluded last week and the school was now closed for a week. All repairs necessary had been attended to. Nine dual desks had been received, but more were still wanted. On a motion by Mr Clausen it was decided to have a hole dug on the ground for the purpose of draining off all storm water. The matter was left in the hands of Mr Cobb. It was resolved that tho Education Board be written to explaining the present bad state of the school gratings, at the same time supplying an estimate for replacing the same, Accounts amounting to £7 12s 6d were passed for payment. Tho Visiting Committee reported that ventilators, blinds, hat and coat hooks were wanted. It was decided to write the Board asking for ventilators and blinds. Mr Swallow reported on tho representative meeting of Committeemen held recently for the purpose of discussing the compulsory technical and continuation classes.' He also brought up the matter of combined school sports. In connection with same there was to be a. banner presented for competition.—The, Comniitto was unanimously in favour of such sports, and a motion to that effect ivas carried, Messrs Fraser and Allnian were elected a. Visiting Committee for ensuing month.
