SKATING CARNIVAL.

The fancy dress skating carnival, .whichtakes place in tlio new hall on t!ie Showground on Friday next, commencing at 7.30 p.m., promises to be a great success. Mr J. H. Watt, hon. secretary, has all arrangements well in hand, and patrons will be pleased to 'earn that dressing rooms Have been arranged for in the machinery hall. Costumes uf every description will be worn, somo magnificent dresses having been obtained from Wellington specially for the carnival. The programme of events is advertised in the "Standard," arid several will cause- ii good deal of amusement to the onlookers. Prizes are given for each event, and mav now be seen in the window of Watts Cycle Depot, Rangitikoi street. Ample time for skating will bo allowed, as the hour of closing has been extended to ll j..m. Dustins, Ltd., will provide tea, coffee and cakes, and the Town Band has kindly offered its services _ free. Tickets can be obtained on application to the hon. secretary, and as tho whole proceeds aro in aid of the High School funds we have no doubt theso will bo sold m very largo numbers.
