—_> [From Our Own Correspondent.) The Miranui mill, owned by Messrs A and L. Seifert, are raising the floor of tho mill, which will bo a considerable saving in exertion to tho employees. The Weka mill, owned by Messrs H. and F. Seifert, have also had (heir now mill constructed in the like manner. The flaxcuttors at Mr A, Scifert's Paiaka, mill' '.ommenco cutting on Monday, Tho Shannon Co-operative Dairy Factory have recently sold their butter at 116s per cvfc, The;,' have been paying lid per pound for butter fat during the past fifteen months.
Tho employees of Gunning's store havo challenged tho employees of tho Shannon Meat Company to play a football match at an earlydate. Mr W. H. Gunning will captain tho former team and Mr S W. Carter tho latter.
The Tennis Club recently paid a'surprise visit to Mr and Mrs 11. Schmidt, who will shortly be leaving the district, when Mr J. Barclay, on behalf of tho members, presented them with a handsome silver salad bowl and servers suitably inscribed and a fountain pen. A most enjoyablo evening was spent. Tho employees of tho Land and Timber Com pany, of whom Mr Schmidt has been manager since the company was formed, •have alsoi presented him with a silver Rotherani watch and sovereign ease. Mr and Mi's Schmidt, who have L-oen residents in this district for many years, carry wi.h them the good wishes of tho whole of tho community. Tho Shannon Dramatic Society will hold a meeting of its members on Monday, the 10th instant, when arrangements .will bo made for their next production and tho handing over of the proceeds of their' recent production of the "Arabian Nights" to tho R-xreation Reserve Trustees. ...
